Short version

Weltschmerz is a Dutch black metal band known for their ferocious live performances. The band was founded in 2009 by Hręsvelg, Valr and Hreim and was later amended by bassist Vidar. Vidar and Weltschmerz parted ways late 2013 due to differences within the band. After releasing several demos and the addition of guitarist Eitr in 2012, Weltschmerz released its first full-length album in 2014 entitled Odium Humani Generis through Immortal Frost Productions. The band has since then been taking Europe by storm with live appearances in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland.


Long version

Weltschmerz is a Dutch black metal band known for their ferocious live performances. The band was founded in 2009 by Hręsvelg, Valr and Hreim. In the same year the debut EP Cry for War was released, which was later re-released on tape in 2010. After the addition of bassist Vidar at the end of 2009, Weltschmerz played its first gigs in 2010. In 2011 a demo was released entitled Promo 2011 that got positive reviews and led to gigs opening for bands like Gorgoroth, Primordial, Vader, Taake, Tsjuder and the like. In the same year, a 4-way split featuring two songs by Weltschmerz was released on tape by Zwaertgevegt and Achtung! Records.

In 2012 second guitarist Eitr was added to the line-up and the band started recording their debut album entitled Odium Humani Generis. Due to some differences within the band the album wasn't released until early 2014 after signing with Immortal Frost Productions. By this time, Vidar and Weltschmerz had parted ways. Since the release of the album, the band has been taking Europe by storm with live appearances in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland.
